Accelerated Reader Info
How it works…
Your child will take a S.T.A.R. computerized test once every marking period of which they will receive their reading range. With that range, they can choose books from our classroom libraries, school library, or home to read. If you are unsure if a book is on A.R., you can log onto www.arbookfind.com or you can refer to the bookfinder website link on the Tamaqua Elementary Website.
AR Logs...
An AR log was given to your child with their reading range. The log is to be filled out with your child’s book, level, points, and testing result (when necessary.) It is recommended your child read on a nightly basis. There will be some time in school where students will be able to read as well. Please initial when your child has taken the test and you’ve seen their points that they earned on the test.
AR Testing...
AR testing will be completed in school. On average, 5-10 questions will be asked of the book your child reads. Once completed, a points earned value will be given at the end of the test. That point value will be recorded on your child’s AR log for them to keep track of total points throughout the quarter.
AR Points…
A points chart will be provided for a percentage grade your child will receive each marking period. An AR grade (percentage) will be factored into their reading grade for the marking period.
